Preserving Tradition Through Grass Fed Heritage Breeds

Heritage Breeds

Welcome to our farm store here at Crescent Hill Farm & Ranch, where tradition meets sustainability. Our mission is to provide you with the highest quality grass-fed beef and pork, raised ethically, organically where possible, and with deep respect for the land through regenerative farming practices.

We believe exceptional food begins with exceptional animals. By focusing on heritage livestock breeds that have proven their value over generations, we are able to produce nutrient-dense, flavorful meats while preserving important agricultural genetics for future generations. Every animal on our farm is raised with care, respect, and a commitment to responsible stewardship of both livestock and land.

Scottish Highland

With their sweeping horns and shaggy coats, Scottish Highland cattle are among the world’s oldest and most celebrated heritage breeds. Bred for centuries to thrive in rugged landscapes, these hardy cattle flourish on grass-based diets year-round, producing beautifully marbled beef known for its exceptional tenderness, rich flavor, and outstanding nutritional profile.

At our farm, the Scottish Highland serves as the foundation of our breeding program. Through careful selection and thoughtful crossbreeding with other historic heritage breeds, including Murray Grey and Pinzgauer cattle, we are working to create the finest grass-fed beef possible. This combination brings together the Highlands’ renowned flavor and resilience with the tenderness, efficiency, and superior carcass qualities of these complementary breeds.

The result is premium beef with remarkable depth of flavor, exceptional tenderness, and the quality typically associated with prime-grade cuts, all while remaining true to our commitment to regenerative agriculture and ethical animal stewardship.

Every animal is raised on diverse pastures using sustainable farming practices that nurture both the herd and the land they depend upon. By working in harmony with nature, we are helping restore soil health, strengthen local ecosystems, and produce truly exceptional beef from pasture to plate.

We believe the future of great beef lies in honoring the wisdom of heritage breeds while continually refining and improving the genetics that make them extraordinary.

Renowned for their ability to thrive on grass alone, Highlands produce naturally lean, richly flavored beef with exceptional tenderness. To further elevate the quality of our herd, we thoughtfully cross-select Highland genetics with other distinguished heritage breeds, including Pinzgauer and Murray Grey cattle.

Pinzgauers contribute outstanding maternal traits, marbling, and efficiency, while Murray Greys are celebrated for their naturally tender beef, calm disposition, and exceptional carcass quality. By carefully blending these time-honored bloodlines, we have developed a herd that captures the best characteristics of each breed, creating beef with remarkable flavor, superior tenderness, abundant marbling, and exceptional nutrient density.

The result is a truly unique, heritage-raised product that reflects our commitment to regenerative agriculture, animal welfare, and producing some of the finest grass-fed beef possible.

Murray Grey

Murray Grey cattle hail from Australia and are renowned for their balance of tenderness and marbling. This breed adapts well to various climates and is prized for producing high-quality, lean beef with exceptional flavor.

Known for their calm disposition, efficient feed conversion, and excellent carcass quality, Murray Grey cattle have earned a reputation among ranchers and consumers alike. Their genetics contribute tenderness, consistency, and efficiency, making them a valuable part of our heritage breeding program.

By integrating Murray Grey cattle into our herd, we enhance the diversity and quality of our beef offerings while maintaining our commitment to sustainable farming and regenerative land stewardship.

Pinzgauer

The Pinzgauer breed is a stunning example of heritage livestock, known for its robust health, excellent meat quality, and adaptability across pasture environments.

Originating in the Alpine regions of Europe, Pinzgauer cattle are highly regarded for their fertility, maternal instincts, efficiency, and ability to thrive in challenging environments. Their genetics contribute exceptional marbling, structural soundness, and overall herd performance.

The inclusion of Pinzgauer bloodlines strengthens our breeding program and helps us produce beef with superior taste, tenderness, and consistency while preserving valuable heritage genetics for future generations.

Heritage Pork

Our heritage pork comes from carefully selected heritage breed hogs known for their exceptional flavor, marbling, and hardiness. These traditional breeds have been raised for generations and are valued for producing richly flavored pork with superior texture compared to conventional commercial pork.

We raise our hogs as naturally as possible, providing them with a wholesome environment where they can express their natural instincts while receiving quality feed and attentive care. This commitment to responsible husbandry results in pork that is tender, flavorful, and raised with integrity from start to finish.

From premium chops and roasts to bacon, sausage, ribs, and other handcrafted cuts available in our store, our heritage pork reflects our dedication to preserving traditional livestock genetics and delivering exceptional quality to your family’s table.

Every animal is raised with the same focus on sustainability, animal welfare, and regenerative land management that guides every aspect of our farm operation.
